Masticating Juicers, also known as Single Gear, Single Auger, and Cold Press Juicers, slowly masticate or “chew up” the fiber of fruits and vegetables using a central rotating device called an auger. The pulp is trapped in a mesh filter screen which lines the side of the wall, and the juices flow out, rich with the inherent enzymes, trace minerals, vitamins and fibers. Because this process happens slowly, with no heat generated, the nutrients and enzymes in the juices are not destroyed, and the juice holds its nutrients for several days.
Masticating Juicers include Single Gear and Twin Gear options (also called Triturating Juicers). Both types of Masticating Juicers produce higher quality juice than Centrifugal Juicers, and are the best choice for hard-to-juice leafy greens or sprouts.
In addition, Masticating Juicers are quieter and more productive than Centrifugal Juicers, generating 15-20% more juice, adding to their cost effectiveness over time.
